Why Enterprise AI Struggles in Production
One theme came up repeatedly throughout the event:
Teams have a data architecture problem for agentic AI – and they don’t want to spend the time and money building it themselves.
To make AI agents, assistants, and applications work, teams assemble complex stacks—connecting data, maintaining relationships, orchestrating retrieval, and keeping everything in sync as the business changes.
It’s not just difficult. It’s ongoing.
- Every new data source adds complexity
- Context has to be rebuilt and maintained
- Systems drift out of sync
- Costs grow over time
What works in a demo becomes difficult to sustain in production.
The Context Gap
Enterprise context lives in relationships – between customers, products, systems, policies, and events.
But in most organizations, that context is fragmented across disconnected systems:

- Vector stores and embeddings
- Logs and operational workflows
AI can access pieces of this information.

What We Heard on the Floor
Over four days at NVIDIA GTC, we had ~200 conversations per day at our booth.
Two patterns emerged.
Group 1: Built It Themselves—and Hit the Wall
Many teams tried to build their own data architecture for AI.
What started as a use case quickly turned into assembling a full stack—data stores, pipelines, GraphRAG frameworks, and custom logic to maintain context.
They got something working.
But in production:
- Context fragmented
- Results became inconsistent and hard to explain
- No shared understanding of relationships or meaning
- Limited visibility into what changed over time
- Governance and trust were difficult to enforce
What they built was a Frankenstack.

Every GTC has its special moments. Last year, it was the robot dog roaming the expo floor.
This year, I had a personal goal: get a selfie with Jensen Huang.
Mission accomplished…kind of.
Let’s just say AI helped make it happen. And honestly, that felt fitting. Because GTC 2026 wasn’t just about what AI can generate, it was about what AI can do.
From robotics to enterprise systems, AI is moving into real workflows, real decisions, and real outcomes.
Even if my Jensen selfie required a little AI assistance.
